The international conference on biological diversity aimed at sensitising people on the importance of biological diversity started on Monday in Sebha in Southern Libya.
The meeting under the theme "For a balanced environment" is organised by the University of Sebha, the Tunisian University of Sousse and Belgium's Charlemagne higher education institution in collaboration with the Libyan national plant cover development programme.
It will review international experiences in this field, evaluate the current situation of biological diversity and the dangers they face.
The conference is also aimed at defining the organisms, micro-organisms and ecological systems threatened by extinction and the creation of opportunities for the meeting of experts in this field.
Participants will be discussing the role of natural reserves in the preservation of biological diversity and sustainable development.
They will also focus on the role of women and civil society organisations in the preservation of biological diversity, natural resource management, means to cope with drought, agricultural activities and rural development, as well as climate change and its impact on biological diversity.
